NCC to apply for plot reservation in Ruoholahti
NCC is applying for plot reservation to develop and build the Ruoholahti area for office use. The land areas are owned by the City of Helsinki. NCC aims to develop the functionality and attractive power of the Ruoholahti workplace area jointly with the City of Helsinki.
The plots in subject of NCC’s application are located alongside the K. A. Fagerholm square south of the Porkkalankatu Street as well as in a plot currently occupied by Neste service station in the south-western corner of the Porkkalankatu and Länsisatamankatu streets. The purpose is to develop 40,000 floor-area square metres of new office space in these land areas. NCC is also planning to bring their own headquarters to the area.
– NCC is observing its strategy to eagerly develop Helsinki, together with the City, so that it would better serve the city-dweller needs. The new office buildings would enable offering an ultramodern working environment for 3,000 people right next to the metro station and other public transport, Head of NCC Property Development Finland Petri Bergström says.
The surroundings of the Porkkalankatu Street will transform into a more appealing urban street environment. Cutting down bus traffic to the Lauttasaari area enables narrowing Porkkalankatu and turning it into a boulevard environment. The street-level café and restaurant functions would add to the attraction of the area.
– Ruoholahti is one of the most appealing office space areas in the region. After the completion of the Western Metro it has improved even more. Along with the office space projects being developed at Porkkalankatu, the plans include, for example, a cultural building called the House of Dance. The pending detail plan also proposes to build a new residential block, a filling station and a car wash central, Project Manager Matti Kaijansinkko from City of Helsinki describes the area.
New west gate to the central business district
– The office blocks rising high on both sides of the city’s western access make a new and prominent gate to the central business district. Together they perfect the silhouette of high-rise buildings at Ruoholahti. The modern-type open and approachable office buildings are part of a process in which Porkkalankatu is being developed into a welcoming urban environment for light traffic, Architect Juha Mäki-Jyllilä of JKMM Arkkitehdit Oy describes.
NCC wants to participate in the complementary construction of the Ruoholahti workplace area with an attractive office project and spaces to be occupied by successful companies. The aim is to build the office blocks of Ruoholahti to standard Excellent according to the BREEAM environmental rating criteria.
